Friday Favorites March 14th

Happy Friday friends! It has been a whirlwind few weeks here, but I am so happy to be back here sharing a little life lately and a few favorites!

As always, I am linking up with Andrea & Erika for a little Friday Favorites. A peek into a few of my favorite things from the week.

one

Two weeks ago we celebrated Paul’s dad’s 90th birthday! It was such a special day and weekend with the family.

We did a small party at our house, and I added a few fun touches for decor. I have shared this here before, but I love using wrapping paper as a table runner for parties!

The cake was so fun. We had it made with a picture of Paul’s dad from about eight years ago riding one of the kids little crazy carts in the driveway! He may be 90, but he is young at heart!

I grabbed this super easy balloon arch  to add to the decor. While it looks intimidating, it was actually pretty easy to put up. I have this balloon inflator, which is a godsend when doing something like this.

This was a super fun print that I got at Amazon. You can obviously get it for different years, but it shares some history of the year you were born. It was a hit with Paul’s dad.

Here he is with his grandchildren. We have not been together since 2018. Between the older grandkids living across the country and then the years of Covid, it was so nice to have everyone together again.

It was just the perfect celebration for our Bud!

We had his party in the afternoon, and then took our out-of-town family for the “Buffalo experience”.
Of course we had to grab chicken wings and beef on weck at our favorite local spot.

After our dinner, we all decided to crash Paul’s parents' house. His mom was so excited when we all showed up at their door at 8:15 at night. We just sat and reminisced and had a lot of laughs to end the weekend.

two

A couple of random new things that I have purchased and have been loving. First up is this Necklace.  It’s just a really unique statement piece and I'm excited to bring it on my trip this weekend.

I  took a rare trip to the mall last weekend and loved the fit and color of this open knit sweater. It’s a great transition piece for spring!

This was my comfy outfit the morning of Paul’s surgery, for hanging out in the waiting room (which I’ll get to more details on that in a minute). It has taken me a while, but I have finally moved on from ankle socks, and I’m trying the midcalf crew style.

These half crew socks  are so comfortable! They are pricey, but are really great quality and look cute on!

Obsessed with these HOKAS
I shared these a couple weeks ago, & I have them in the eggnog color. They look really cute and are extremely comfortable for walking or running.

This jacket has been on repeat! Perfect for this time of year and great for travel. I have it in navy & the taupe color. I love the brightness of those leggings. This color is from last year, but this season they have a similar shade.

So two days before my father-in-law’s birthday party, Paul hurt himself playing basketball. He plays in a men’s league, and came home late at night after playing and had a lot of pain in his right calf. He thought he may have strained or sprained something so he iced it, and was struggling to walk for the next couple of days. He kind of hobbled along through the party, and then we headed to the doctor first thing Monday. We got some unfortunate news that he ruptured his Achilles. And OMG, what an awful injury and recovery process.
Here we are on his way to surgery. He had surgery this past Monday, with a phenomenal orthopedic, and we are now officially on our way to recovering.

He has been spending a lot of time on the couch, where he will be for the next week and a half until he gets the cast off. He will then transition to a boot.

He sent the kids and I this view from his recovery room after surgery.

His parents were happy to come by and visit him.

It’s going to be a long recovery, as he cannot bear any weight on that leg for the next six weeks. This of course means no driving for probably the next 2 to 3 months. And then a long 6 to 9 months of physical therapy to get back to where he was.

four

Sharing a few of our favorite meals from the few last weeks. First up are these Greek chicken bowls. Easy and really customizable for everyone in the family to build their own bowl that they love.

Eggroll in a bowl is a forever favorite at this house. We put it over regular rice or cauliflower rice, and this week we added some edamame as well.

OK, so my picture doesn’t necessarily do as justice, but these buffalo chicken burgers were amazing!
Below is my picture, and underneath that is the one from the website.

The real winner from this meal was the whipped feta. Do not skip that part of the recipe!!! It made quite a bit, so I kept mine and used it to dip veggies in for the rest of the week.

And last is a build your own chicken bowl night. I put a bunch of chicken breast in the crockpot with a little bit of chicken stock, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. When it was done, I shredded it and set out some things to build a bowl. I roasted some broccoli, and we had leftover vegetables from previous nights dinner.

I added cottage cheese to mine for some protein. I went with buffalo sauce, and the kids did barbecue sauce. An easy option that everyone can build to their liking!

I am off to the happiest place on earth tomorrow. I am lucky enough to be traveling to Disney for a corporate work meeting. I am flying down a couple of days early to meet some friends and then will be in meetings next week.

While the timing is not ideal with Paul’s recovery, he will be in good hands this weekend with the kids, and then his parents are going to help out the first half of next week!

Wishing you a great weekend! See you back here on Monday, there is always room for one more at our family table
xoxo

  1. Wow, 90! What a milestone! I remember reading about Maria's ordeals with her Achilles tendon last year (https://threerineerkids.blogspot.com/). Hoping all goes well for your husband.
