Food, family, and fitness... all with a bit of style.

Three Things

Happy Wednesday friends! I have come across a  "Three Things" post on some of my blogging friends' pages and thought it would be a fun post to do.  The concept is to share three things about yourself or your family. I am planning an "All About Genevieve" post for later this month, so today I'll share three things about my three people!
Ella
1. This girl is full of energy! She is dancing or flipping or moving from the second her feet hit the floor every morning. Her energy seems never ending! Because of this, she is also my night owl... she never wants to miss any of the action!
2. She has the sweetest heart. It makes me smile when I see her in school being extra thoughtful around students that may not included in something. She has been recognized by her teachers for helping other students that might be struggling with their work and volunteers to be a partner for those without one. I'm sure that part of this is from the relationship she has with her aunt, and I blogged about that here.
3. She is very conscientious. She does not like to be late and loves a schedule & to do list. #agirlaftermyownheart Her room is always tidy and she leaves herself a bedtime note of her to do list and schedule for the following day.
Luke
1. This guy is a sleeper! He loves sleep. When he was little he would take his "night night" and start walking up the stairs to bed. I mean don't get me wrong... he is go, go, go all day, but when he gets tired he says Goodnight! #aguyaftermyownheart   And when I say he loves sleep, trying to get him up to make a 10am baseball game is no easy feat!
2. Luke is pretty hilarious. I try not to say that around him too much, as he needs no encouragement, but gosh he cracks us up. Every quarterly report card he has received highlights his sense of humor. I am thankful the teachers appreciate it. He really does have great wit.
3. His Dad is his hero. Luke loves Paul and wants to be just like him. When he gets dressed to go out somewhere, he checks to see "what is Dada wearing?". If Paul is playing a sport or watching a game, you can bet Luke is right there with him. And that's who he gets his sense of humor from....they are really two peas in a pod!
Paul
1. Paul loves the outdoors and adventure. He is always up for doing something active. Whether it's boating, skiing, kayaking or bike riding he is happiest when he is outside and getting a workout. We are lucky to have him take us along for these adventures!
2. I don't know that there is a sweet out there this guy doesn't like. He loves his sweets, especially pies and ice cream! The kids laugh because any time he stops to pick up something at the grocery store he will always come home with a pie! Paul has something sweet after every meal and has been known to eat pie for breakfast!
3. He is an engineer. And along with that has a lot of "engineer qualities"....those of you that know engineers know what I am talking about 😉 He likes things a certain way and is very thorough in the details of mechanical things. I have grown to appreciate these qualities more and more each year, as he can troubleshoot and fix most household or car issues and has a maintenance schedule for cars/boat/etc so everything looks like new.
And there you have it... 3 things about my 3 people!
Be sure to stop by tomorrow, we are sharing a recipe for a simple, sweet treat!
There's always room for one more at our family table.

Weekend Wrap Up....Hello June Edition

Well this was another full weekend here in the Perryman house!!! And the countdown is on for the kids....12 more days of school til Summer Vacation! These last few weeks are tough.. busy weekends, staying up late as it's still so light out, warmer weather.... makes for some challenging mornings! But we are almost there! I laugh at these pics when I see them..
I am not that bad, but the lunches are not nearly as cute as September!
A little recap of our first weekend in June. Friday was so low key and oh so good! Kids just played when they came home from school. Luke found a new reading spot.
We grilled some salmon for dinner and made milkshakes for dessert.
Saturday morning started out even better.  I was up early and got to read my new book out on the patio.
And then we were off... Ella played amazing in her soccer game! She has gotten so much better with each game! So proud of her!
Next up was Luke's game. He played pitcher for the first time and did really well!
Well enough to earn him the game ball!
Ella was happy to swing around at the park while Luke played ball. The games do get a little long....and she is a trooper for coming to watch all of them!
We wrapped up Saturday night with a BBQ at our friends house. Summer BBQ, pingpong and Smores all made for a pretty great night!
Sunday we were supposed to have an early game, but it got delayed to the afternoon due to rain. We took advantage of a little free time and got the house cleaned up and picked up some plants at the nursery. E & L each picked a plant too! Ella a geranium and Luke a cactus!
There was no time to plant them... but at least we got them! Someday we will get our Summer landscape done! We were off to another game! Luke and his team played great!
With the best part being an ice cream treat after the game!
We finished up Sunday with a delicious dinner at my Mom's. So if you are counting....that's both Saturday and Sunday that I was off cooking duty. 😉Another busy, but fun weekend in the books!
We are not slowing down anytime soon! Paul's parents are coming in this week for a visit and we have three days of dance recital/rehearsal, a soccer game and three baseball games! Kids are so excited to have them watch all their games/performances!
Have a great week!
See you soon....there's always room for one more at our family table!

Five Meals for Your Family Table.... Week 22

Oh hey friends! Another Monday.... and gosh I know today is going to be tough.
We were busy all weekend and my crew (including me) is going to be toast at the end of today.
Lucky I have got this week's meals planned and prepped.
A couple favorites, a new burger and some amazing kabobs!
Grab you pen and get you grocery list together....I've got your meal plan right here!
one
This Roasted Vegetable Tortellini never gets old. In fact in the Summer it gets even better with all the great summer veggies and you can grill instead of roast. Another bonus... it comes together in  no time. Take 4-5 cups of your favorite veggies. You can use almost anything!  A few of  our favs are zucchini, onion, broccoli, peppers, carrots, cauliflower, mushrooms, and asparagus. Chop into bite size pieces and toss with EVOO and sprinkle with salt & pepper. Roast at 425 for 20 minutes or place in a grill basket and grill for 15 minutes. Toss with some tortellini or your favorite pasta.  A sprinkle of cheese... feta, parm or goat are our favorites and dinner is done.
two
Pineapple, chicken, BBQ and veggies come together to make these kabobs so full of flavor!
Cut 1lb boneless chicken, 3 bell peppers, half a pineapple and a red onion into some larger bite size chunks. Thread them in alternating flavors on a skewer (this made about 8 kabobs). Brush the chicken with some of your favorite BBQ sauce and grill for 15-20 minutes, turning often (until chicken cooked through). These are so yummy... the sweetness from the pineapple is just perfect with this!
P.S. Grill some extra BBQ chicken for Thursday's dinner😉
three
This Grilled Halibut topped with bruschetta looks fancy and complicated, but its really anything but! Our local grocery store has an olive bar, so I just grabbed some fresh bruschetta there. Drizzle the halibut fillets with a little EVOO, sprinkle with salt & pepper and grill for 10-12 minutes. Top with the bruschetta once they come off the grill. We paired ours with some cauliflower rice and sauteed spinach. An easy way to fancy up your Wednesday!
four
BBQ Chicken Salad is hands down our favorite Summer salad. And if you grilled extra chicken with your kabobs it will be a cinch to get dinner on the table! Grill some chicken (or use a rotisserie chicken) and then build your salad. Some of our favorite topping are black olives, bell peppers, corn and tortilla strips. Instead of dressing, we just drizzle a little bit of BBQ sauce over top. You can also mix some BBQ with plain greek yogurt for a creamier dressing option! The Summer beer is optional😉
five
Finishing our the week with another fun twist on burgers. These Taco Burgers got two thumbs up from everyone around table! And they are so simple....simple dinner that everyone loves... I'll take it!
Mix 1 1/2lbs of ground turkey with 2 TBSP of taco seasoning and form into 6 patties. Grill for 15 minutes. Now for the fun part! We topped ours with all the regular taco fixings... lettuce, tomato, salsa, avocado, black bean spread, shredded cheese. Ella said "It tastes just like a taco but it's a burger!"
So, so good! And so easy to just put on top of a salad and skip the bun!
Hope you are all off to a wonderful week!
See you tomorrow for our weekend wrap up.....there's always room for one more at our family table!

Friday Favorites....Llama Edition

It's Friday already! I am a strong supporter of the 4 day work week.  I think someone should make that happen!
So you may be wondering about the tile of this post & you'll find out the answer in favorite number one from the week!
As always, I am linking up with some of my favorite blogging friends, Andrea, Narci, and Erika to share a few of my Friday Favorites. A random list of things that made me happy this week!
one
My first favorite from this week is Tuesday night. We were heading to a baseball game with the kids and decided to park at our marina and walk along the waterfront. As we were walking I saw this large black "dog". I thought it was a Newfoundland or something, but as we got closer I said to Paul "Are they walking a llama?"
Yes friends.... they were walking their alpaca....on a leash....along the waterfront.
The kids were totally astounded and I have to tell you it sure made everyone smile that walked by.
His name was Mr T and he apparently loves walking down there!
The way Luke and that llama are looking at each other just kills me!
#llamallamaredpajama
After all that excitement, we finished our walk to the ballpark, stopping for a quick photo with "Shark girl"......
And had a fun time at the game!
I swear my kids just go for the food! We had a new snack every inning!
two
My What's Up Wednesday post highlighted everything from what we are eating, loving ,wearing, reading and more!
If you missed any of my posts last month, you can catch up here.  Hint... lots of dance & baseball😉
three
A few weeks ago Ella had her field/fun day at school and this week was Luke's turn. He had a blast with all his friends and I got to stop by and join in the fun for a bit!
four
This dry shampoo. So I have naturally curly, frizzy hair and I try not to wash/dry it often to keep from damaging it. More damage = more frizz. But after running/working out I need something to freshen it up and this dry shampoo is the best.
I just spray a little at my roots, rub it in and brush it out.
I don't know about you, but second or even third day hair always looks better on me! And let's be real...not having to dry my hair is the best. I often see this quote around and it speaks to my heart.
five
I woke up to this sky yesterday morning.... and thought what a beautiful start to the new month!
Looking forward to this first weekend in June! Hoping to get some planting done in between games and maybe a little relaxing out on the boat!
Have a fun weekend friends!
Be back on Monday.....and there's always room for one more at our family table.

Weekend Wrap Up.....Long Weekend Edition

Ok, so I feel like a broken record as I say again how crazy May has been....but seriously.... a lot going on!! Here's a peek at our whirlwind weekend!
The kids had a half day on Friday and Ella went to a friend's house and Luke waited patiently for his delivery to come. He ordered 8 books with his Barnes & Noble gift card and asked everyday when they were coming. He waited (in the pouring rain) at the end of the driveway for the mailtruck.
And it was just pure joy when that box came!
Friday night our good friends came over, who we have not seen in forever....so we made up for missing Cinco de Mayo! Such a fun night!
Saturday was soccer....that's my girl in the pink cleats...
Baseball....
And ended the night with dinner and swimming with some great baseball friends!
Sunday brought.... you guessed it... more baseball. This time it was Luke's travel team. It was a really exciting game! Luke had a great hit in the bottom of the last inning, scoring two runs and helping this team to get the win! He also got the game medal, and a popsicle. Pretty much his version of the best day ever!
I was hurriedly putting makeup on Ella and she changed in the bathrooms at the baseball field, as we were off to a local amusement park for her dance showcase.
She did a great job & is all smiles when she is up on stage. But the best part is hanging at the amusement park with your dance friends. Pretty much her version of the best day ever!
And I was happy to have those friends there too. I am not an amusement park person. I really don't like anything about them.... except fried dough.... I love fried dough.
I was really thankful to have no plans on Monday...I was pooped! We had a rainy start to the morning, so I got our grocery shopping done and when the rain cleared, the kids and Paul took off on a bike ride.
The sun came out and it started to feel more like Summer! And Maddie was happy about that!
The kids tried building a tent with the neighbors......
did a little slip-n sliding.....
and got a treat from the ice cream truck.
Our weekend ended with the best Summer dinner
and enjoying our ice cream treat on the hammock.
I think we are off to a great Summer!
See you tomorrow for Friday Favorites....there's always room for one more at our family table.
