48 Hours in Philadelphia

Happy Monday friends! My kids have one last day off for Easter break today. The solar eclipse is today and we are apparently in the path of totality. Happening this afternoon, not sure what to expect, but we have ordered our glasses and we will see what all this hype is about!

Last week we took a quick trip to Philadelphia to celebrate Luke’s birthday. Paul and I used to live in South Jersey, just a few minutes over the bridge from Philadelphia, and we have gone back several times to visit. Sometimes I feel like Philly gets a bad rap, but we truly love the city and our time there. Luke is a big basketball fan, and we don’t have a major team here in Buffalo so he has adopted the 76ers as his team. We have gone on numerous trips to go watch them play and it’s always a fun weekend!

On this trip, we left early in the morning, to try to avoid traffic. Traffic can get a little dicey around the city mid afternoon. We got there in the early afternoon and checked into our hotel. We always stay at Penn's Landing.

We enjoy being on the river, and it’s a close to walk to Central City when weather is nice, and there are a couple of restaurants that are in walking distance from the hotel. We got settled in, used the fitness area to get in some movement after a 6 hour drive. Spent some time in the sauna, and relaxed by the pool.

We grabbed a drink at the bar before dinner, with Shirley Temples for the kids!

For dinner, we took a quick Uber ride to Giorgio’s on Pine. A friend of ours recommended the restaurant, and it was delicious! It was BYOB, as a lot of restaurants are in Philadelphia as well as southern New Jersey. Just an FYI in case you visit there, it’s always good to check ahead of time.

We all enjoyed the grilled Caesar salad. There is something about grilling lettuce that takes it up a notch!

I had the linguine and clams, which was amazing.

And then we all got dessert. I think we each got something different! Luke had crème brûlée, Paul had tiramisu, I had cannoli, and Ella as per usual, got some sort of chocolate concoction!

We had a great dinner there and will definitely be back!

The next morning we had hoped to walk around Center City, as well as near Rittenhouse Square, to do some shopping, but the weather was less than stellar.  So we started the morning slow with coffee and a book, which I wasn't mad about.

It poured all day!! We made the best of it, and took an Uber to Chickie's & Pete’s in South Philly. This is a Philadelphia staple, known for their crab fries. Really just crinkle cut fries, tossed with old base seasoning and serve with cheese sauce, but they are a must on every visit!

We headed over to do some shopping on Walnut Street. We didn’t last too long, because we were all soaked. It's a great area to walk around when the weather is better.

We headed back to the hotel to relax, and then really wanted to hit one of our favorite restaurants there, Cuba Libre.

We weren’t super hungry, but went to split an app before the game. Their pressed Cuban bread with mango butter is worth the stop there!

Luke was pleasantly surprised when his favorite player was released from injury and came back to play that night. When we left for the game, he was still questionable to play, so Luke did not choose that jersey. He was a little bit bummed that he didn’t pick that one of the 5 jerseys he brought!

It was a super exciting game, and the Sixers won!

We made our way back to the hotel and I asked for a picture with my kids, which of course they always turn the camera and take some entertaining selfies before giving the camera back to me! LOL

A fun two days celebrating my boy's 15th birthday. My little boy who is now officially taller than me.

Wishing you a beautiful week. I will see you back here on Wednesday for our Let's Look series.

There is always room for one more at our family table.
xoxo
